HORRIFYING POLY-BOOB SUNDAE, A FEMININE CERAMICS ART SHOW
Posted by Aldi Cusmin
CMYKN love it when feminine shit makes you shudder, and these ceramics are all lady—with some Cronenberg body horror to top it off. Sculptor Jessica Stoller rendered these Rococo bad trips with the finest of detail. Ornate confections and opulent embellishments hang with the weight of flesh and bloom into labial literalism. It’s girly, it’s gross, and it’s so compelling you just can’t seem to look away.
Jessica Stoller’s ceramic sculptures are nightmares, rendered through delicate craft. With a show opening at P.P.O.W. this week, Stoller’s works exhibit some of the most traditional feminine flourishes — ribbons; flowers; pink-hued desserts — and reveal everything spoiled underneath — mountains of ribbons wrap and choke busts; flowers gape like hungry deformed carnal canals; deserts look like piles of ground flesh. Basically, it’s Victorian tea party… with body horror. And you’d think ice cream on some boobs sounds pretty. But no. “Spoil,” Jessica Stoller, Jan 9 – Feb 8, P.P.O.W., Chelsea
